Tucked away in the Northeast corner of Georgia and the Western edges of North Carolina is a land rich in natural beauty and the heritage of Appalachia. Here misty coves, lush forests, cool lakes and rushing streams whisper quiet invitations echoed in the friendly voices of the mountain community.

Hiawassee, located in Towns County, Georgia lies on the shoreline of crystal Lake Chatuge. After a full day of boating, skiing, swimming and fishing, there is nothing more relaxing than to sit and watch the sun slowly disappear over the calm water of the mountain lake.

Towns County is comprised of over 170,000 square acres of which two-thirds lies within National Forest or other federal holdings. Lake Chatuge contains 7500 acres of cool mountain stream fed sparkling water. The shoreline stretches for over 150 miles.

The average summer temperature is 84 degrees with the average winter temperature in the 40s.

Towns County enjoys one of the lowest tax rates in the state of Georgia. The population of the county is approximately 9,000.

Brasstown Bald Mountain, the highest peak in Georgia (4,784 ft.) allows a 360 degree view of the county, as well as several other states.

The recreation opportunities abound and include hiking, fishing, boating, mountain climbing, canoeing, and golf. Annual events include the Georgia Mountain Fair, John C, Campbell Folk School Festivals, The Country Concert Series, Spring and Fall Music Festivals and the Mountain Country Christmas.
